Music

Intent for Music

Here at Newtown, music is an important part of our wider curriculum.  We aim to inspire every child to be a musician.  Throughout their music journey, the children will be composers and performers as they sing and play a range of instruments in solo and ensemble contexts, as well as being able to use and understand musical notation.  We offer a wide range of instruments to learn, such as, the recorder, glockenspiel, keyboard, ukulele, selection of percussion instruments and, of course, singing!  Our children will experience and appraise live and recorded performances of diverse music from across history, other cultures and from great composers.  It is our aim to develop a love of music and the confidence to be a superstar!

Have a look at our curriculum overview to see what each year group will learn throughout the year!
