Safeguarding
Newtown Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy, which can be viewed below and on our Policies section of our website.
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our students are discussed with their parents/carers first, unless we have a reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to a child’s welfare.
We actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism.

Operation Encompass
Our school participates in Operation Encompass, a safeguarding partnership between the police and education settings.
This means that if West Midlands Police attend an incident of domestic abuse where a pupil from our school is present, we receive a confidential notification before the start of the next school day. This information is shared with our trained Designated Safeguarding Lead (Key Adult) so that we can provide timely support to the child.
We understand that experiencing or witnessing domestic abuse can have a significant impact on a child’s wellbeing and learning. Operation Encompass helps us to better understand and respond to children’s needs with sensitivity and appropriate support.
If you would like further information about how we use Operation Encompass in our school, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
